NYC DOT will close the Grand Concourse between East Tremont Avenue and Mosholu Parkway on August 22 for the first Summer Streets event in the Bronx, with a beginner running series and kinetic art on the route.

The Grand Concourse will close to car traffic between East Tremont Avenue and Mosholu Parkway on Saturday, August 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — the first Summer Streets event in the Bronx, according to NYC DOT's published 2026 schedule.

The roughly 25-block stretch runs through the Fordham, Bedford Park, and Norwood corridor, one of the Bronx's primary commercial and residential boulevards. NYC DOT is pairing the Bronx with Brooklyn on the same date; Brooklyn's route runs Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Avenue.

Two programs are confirmed for the Concourse site. Josh Cohen's kinetic sculptures, "Big Spinning Wheels" — colorful spinning arms that form optical patterns — will appear at the Concourse and at three other outer-borough sites. The New York Road Runners Start Line Series, a free beginner running and walking event, comes to the Bronx for the first time on August 22; prior editions ran only in Queens. Registration opens at nyrr.org/startlineseries.

DOT has not released full programming details for the Concourse site, listing them as "details coming soon" as of July 17. Community flyers for the August 22 routes had not yet been posted.

Manhattan runs three consecutive Saturdays — August 1, 8, and 15, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. — along Lafayette Street and Park Avenue from the Brooklyn Bridge to Dyckman Street. Queens (Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City) and Staten Island (Broadway, Stapleton area) open the program on July 25.
