Riders at West 4th Street–Washington Square on Saturday morning encountered something the station's B/D/F/M platform doesn't see on a normal day: a Q train pulling in.

The MTA suspended the B train on July 18, and Q trains were rerouted to run on the IND 6th Avenue Line — the corridor the B and D normally share through lower Manhattan and Greenwich Village. Real-time GTFS data confirmed the diversion: Q trains were registering at station D17, the IND 6th Avenue platform at 34th Street–Herald Square, alongside D trains, not at the adjacent BMT Broadway platform where the Q ordinarily runs. The B route returned no train data at all as of Saturday morning.

West 4th Street sits on the IND 6th Avenue Line beneath Greenwich Village, served under normal operations by the B, D, F, and M. It is not on the Q's standard route, which runs via the BMT Broadway Line from Times Square through Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center and down the Brighton Line to Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue.

During planned weekend work, the MTA regularly reroutes Q trains to the 6th Avenue corridor when the BMT Broadway Line south of 57th Street is unavailable. Riders boarding at 6th Avenue stations this weekend will find Q trains where they'd normally see the B; riders used to the Q's Broadway local stops won't find it there.
