Saint Vitus opened at the Manhattan Avenue space in 2011 as a heavy-metal bar with a back-room stage, pulling touring and local acts to a room wired for loud. The DOB issued a vacate order there in February 2024 — a building safety action, not an SLA license revocation. Brooklyn Paper confirmed the space would not reopen at that address in August 2024, closing out more than a decade at the Greenpoint location.

That distinction matters for what comes next. Because the original shutdown was a DOB vacate and not an SLA disciplinary proceeding, the venue's State Liquor Authority license status was a separate question from the building closure — the two agencies run on separate tracks. A new Bushwick location puts the operators before Brooklyn Community Board 4's SLA committee rather than the CB1 panel that reviewed the Manhattan Avenue address; a license transfer or new application would go through that body before the SLA acts.
