Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez homered Saturday as Ryan Weathers rebounded from three straight rough starts to lead the Yankees past the Phillies 3-1, clinching the series in Philadelphia. New York improved to 33-22 on the road — the best away record in the AL.

Ryan Weathers had been getting shelled. Three consecutive poor outings had his ERA trending ugly and his spot in the Yankees' already-stretched rotation in question. On Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, he answered: 5⅔ innings, six hits, one earned run, seven strikeouts, a win. New York took the series.

The Yankees beat the Phillies 3-1 on July 25 (MLB, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia), collecting their sixth straight road victory and pushing their AL-best away record to 33-22. They've won five of their last six.

Bryce Harper gave Philadelphia an early edge with a first-inning sacrifice fly that scored Trea Turner. Weathers managed his way out of two more jams — a key double-play off Harper in the third and a blowup call on a Goldschmidt popup that Turner couldn't corral over his head — keeping the damage at one.

The tie came in the third: Austin Wells stroked an opposite-field shot off Brian Keller, his seventh home run of the season. Wells had gone down a run and went to the opposite field, a catcher proving he can cover the whole plate. Jasson Domínguez added his own shot to extend the lead, and the go-ahead run came in the sixth when Cody Bellinger — who singled, doubled, and drove in a run across the night — brought home the run that made it 3-1. David Bednar closed it out in the ninth for his 20th save.

Postscript worth noting: Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain before Sunday's game 3 finale, which the Phillies won 11-4 to avoid the sweep. That development and its August 3 deadline implications have been reported separately. The Saturday game belongs to Weathers, who needed a good one, and got it.
